I wonder if this is related to their announcement that they will start watermarking text? Their method adds a statistical biases to the generated text, which they state doesn’t work in certain situations (short text sequences being one of them). Would you say growing wheat to feed your own farm animals should be regulated by the federal government? SCOTUS decided in Wikard v Filburn [1] that a farmer growing wheat for private use was in fact inter-state commerce. This decision has been used to uphold all manner of federal laws that on their face appear to regulate private conduct totally within the confines of a single state.

One of the very first tools I install on a new Mac is the free WordService [1] tool from DEVONTechnologies (no affiliation). It adds a bunch of little text tools to the Services menu, including several for inserting the current date and time in various formats. They also provide a direct download version [2].
